Wanted husband of former news anchor goes missing

Police are yet to arrest Congolese national Hypolite Nyogbia who is wanted for conspiring to defraud a Nigerian businessman and his two Korean associates of sh6.3 million.

Hypolite Nyogbia is the husband of former KTN and K24 news anchor Ann Ngugi.

Ms Ngugi is also facing a similar charge.

A police officer involved in the matter and who can not be quoted because he is not authorized to speak to the media said that detectives are still looking for the suspect.

The officer said it is not clear whether Mr Nyogbia is still in Kenya or has fled to a neighbouring country.

Mr Nyogbia is alleged to have conspired to falsely obtain the money from Fabian Chibiebule Ohare and his two Korean friends on diverse dates between September 20 and October 24 in Nairobi and Kinshasa.

He is accused of conspiring with his wife and business associate Kamimbaya Soumali to commit the alleged fraud.

Ms Ngugi and Mr Soumali have already been charged separately with similar offenses.

Mr Soumali was charged before Senior Principal Magistrate Timothy Okello on Thursday last week, while Ms Ngugi was charged before Senior Principal Magistrate Victor Wakumile on Tuesday this week.

Both have denied the charges and are out on a Sh. 1 Million cash bail each. The cases will be heard on May 30.

They are charged with obtaining the cash purporting to have been in a position to sell the three 50kg of raw Gold.

Ms Ngugi is said to have been called by the complainants and confirmed to them on phone that her husband is a genuine gold dealer whom she has seen sell the precious mineral.

The fraud was allegedly committed on the strength of her affirmation.
