House help who had sex as child watched sentenced
A house help who exposed her employer’s two-year old baby to obscene behavior by having sex with a man in the presence of the minor will serve nine months in prison.
Kibera Principal Magistrate Lucas Onyina handed the sentence to Everlyn Osebe Omweli, 26, saying she was remorseful.
The magistrate said the offence should be discouraged.
TRAUMATIZED
“Human beings should be decent in their actions. Your actions traumatized the child,” the magistrate said and declined to grant her the option of a fine.
Osebe was caught on camera that her boss, Kelvin Kangethe, had installed in the sitting room of his house in Highrise Estate, Nairobi, having sex with a man as the child watched.
The court heard that on November 26, she invited a man while her employer and his wife were away and the two started having sex on the sofa set in the presence of the minor.
The man, said to be a mechanic at a nearby garage, evaded arrest, the prosecution said.
“It is an obscene act committed in the presence of a minor. I felt offended,” Mr Kang’ethe says in statement he recorded at the Capitol Hill Police Station.
UGANDAN HOUSE HELP
According to the statement, he installed the device after a video of a Ugandan house help assaulting her employer’s child went viral on social media.
“After two days, I downloaded the pictures and could not believe it when I saw my maid having sex with a man in my sitting room while my child watched,” Mr Kangethe says in his statement.
The matter was reported at an administration police post nearby and on questioning, Osebe admitted committing the offence.
She was charged with contravening the children act, by exposing the child to pornographic acts.
