Hitches mar KU elections

There was some slight confusion on the first day of student elections at Kenyatta University on Tuesday morning.

Many students were not sure where to cast their ballot on the first day of polling that targeted hostel representatives.

However, voting began in Nyayo, Kilimambogo, Usambara, Ngong’ hostels at around 9am.

Other hostels followed a few minutes later.

The KU electoral commission appointed officials to conduct the exercise whose doors closed at 5.30pm. This was to avoid irregularities.

Each candidate selected two agents who would be present during voting.

There were long queues in a vote seen as preparation for Thursday’s executive elections.

Students will vote for congress men and women, vice president, organising secretary, secretary general and the president on Thursday.

Campaigns ended on Sunday. They saw candidates dig deep into their pockets. Coloured posters and banners flew everywhere in the university.
