High Court reduces bail for Nairobi Aviation students

By VINCENT AGOYA February 5th, 2015 1 min read

The High Court has reduced the hefty bail slapped on 15 Nairobi Aviation students who were arrested on Monday for storming the Nation Centre.

Justice Luka Kimaru reduced their cash bail to Sh5, 000 each.

This was after the students’ lawyer had moved to the High Court on Thursday to appeal against the bond terms handed to them by Magistrate Miriam Mugure.

Each student was initially required to deposit a cash bail of Sh 200,000 to secure their freedom from custody, except one who was ordered to pay a cash bail of Sh 300,000 against the charge of being armed with a stone and threatening members of the public.

The students are accused of participating in an unlawful assembly, assaulting a Nation Media Group photojournalist and damaging window glasses belonging to the media house while protesting along Kimathi Street on February 2.
