Here’s the ‘coincidence’ Kenyans have noticed about election date
Kenyans online have ‘discovered’ an coincidence about the date set by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for the fresh presidential election.
October 17 is the date which the IEBC set for the election which will see President Uhuru Kenyatta facing off with Nasa leader Raila Odinga.
On Monday, in a statement, IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati said there will be no fresh nomination and only President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga will be on the ballot.
UHURU’S BIRTHDAY
Witty Kenyans were quick to connect the significant date to President Kenyatta’s birthday which falls on October 26. The president will be turning 55 years.
The other uncanny thing about the election date is that it will come just three days before what used to be called Kenyatta Day (now Mashujaa Day), a public holiday which honours Kenya’s independence heroes.
Some netizens even suggested that the polls would provide an early birthday gift to Mr Kenyatta, who is seeking a second and final term in office.
Here is what they had to say:
So its Oct 17th. Uhuru’s birthday. And after 3 days IEBC declare Uhuru as the winner.
And that day is Oct 20 which is Kenyatta Day.— Dantoz (@DantozFryerz) September 5, 2017
