Here is what CCTV footage shows on Muchai’s murder

CCTV footage from one of the buildings near the crime scene shows that the gunmen were trailing Kabete MP George Muchai’s car in a Mercedes as he drove from Westlands.

Shortly before 2.51am, another vehicle driving from the direction of the Serena Hotel negotiated the roundabout and was wedged between the MP’s car and the white Mercedes station wagon. The motorist then took the centre lane and drove towards the Kenyatta/Moi Avenue junction.

Mr Muchai’s car stopped at exactly 2:51:20am. The Mercedes then went around the roundabout but about halfway paused at a traffic island. The time is indicated as 2.51.50am

Fifteen seconds later, at 2.52.05am, the car blocked Mr Muchai’s car. At about the same time, a man carrying a gunny bag on his back is seen crossing the road from Nyayo House towards an open parking space near the scene.

The actual shooting is not clear from the footage. However, after exactly 53 seconds, the Mercedes reverses and speeds away down Kenyatta Avenue before turning right onto Koinange street towards the Holy Family Basilica.

From the time Mr Muchai’s vehicle was blocked to the time the Mercedes left the scene of the crime, eight vehicles drove past.

The first police vehicle arrived at the scene seven minutes after the gunmen had driven away. The time is indicated as 2:59:03am.

A total of 36 other vehicles had driven past the scene in that period.
