Heavy police presence after Kibera youths burn down NYS project

A National Youth Service built toilet in Kibera was set ablaze Monday evening by irate youth who were demonstrating against Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru.

There was heavy police presence in Kibera on Tuesday morning.

A statement from police headquarters stated that the youth, numbering about 300, started demonstrating at 7 pm at Kibera’s Olympic stage, where they lit bonfires and barricaded the road.

“The youths were dispersed by Administration Police from the nearby chiefs camp but later regrouped at Katwekera at 9 Pm where they set ablaze the toilet constructed by NYS,” said the police report.

According to the statement, the youth were protesting against a move by another group from the area to participate in demonstration along city streets in support of Ms Waiguru against claims of alleged corruption at NYS.
