A child who was detained with his mother at Buruburu Police Station pending deportation to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has died.

Master Joshua Furaha, 3, had been in custody with his mother Ms Martha Bashonga Chibika, who had been charged with being in the country illegally.

They were both detained at the station pending deportation to the DRC when he suddenly fell ill and rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital where he was being guarded by Police Constable Edna Sanga. The deceased was reportedly suffering from malaria.
