How Harambee Stars players almost boycotted Mauritius game

Just 24 hours to the second leg encounter of a World Cup qualifier against Mauritius, Harambee Stars camp was in total disarray with players threatening to boycott Sunday’s match, Nairobi News can reveal.

This is the latest row that the team is having with Football Kenya Federation (FKF) over air ticket refunds and other allowances.

Nairobi News has been reliably informed that the players almost walked out of camp on Saturday evening when it emerged that the federation had no clear plans on how the allowances and air ticket refunds running into millions of shillings will be effected.

Calm was however restored after assistant coach Musa Otieno prevailed upon the players to rescind the decision.

The Federation in the meantime is awaiting word from the Government, which has reportedly committed in writing to offset all the arrears owed to the players in due course.

AIR TICKET REFUND

“We are fed all up with this federation, they owe us monies for various reasons but no one seems keen to address or even explain this matter. I can tell you for free that several players might not turn up for the next assignment,” one player in the team told Nairobi News.

Sources within the team claim that each of the foreign based player was asked to secure a return air ticket to Nairobi from his base for this tie with a promise of a refund, but so far there has been no update on the same.

Neither has the status of the camping allowance and match winning bonuses against Mauritius in the first leg match been addressed.

Should the match go ahead, Stars will be out to defend a three goal advantage over the Indian Ocean Islanders, having won the opening match 5-2 away in midweek.
