Harambee Starlets are still hopeful of competing in the Africa Women Cup of Nations (Awcon) finals slated for November 2018 after lodging a valid complaint.

Starlets bowed out to the two-time holders Equatorial Guinea 3-2 on aggregate on June 9 but reported the Nzalang Nacional to the Confederation of African Football (Caf) for fielding an ineligible player.

According to Football Kenya Federation (FKF), the player in the middle of controversy, Celestina Manga Besecu, is Cameroonian and her real name is Fadimatou Veronique Nsongone.

NO HOST

FKF filed a protest that was dimmed valid by the continental football governing body after receiving Sh200,000 as protest fee.

“Kindly note that the matter will be submitted to the Disciplinary Board during their next meeting taking place on the 8th of September, 2018,” reads a CAF letter dated August 29, 2018 and signed by the body’s General Secretary Amr Fahmy.

Equatorial Guinea, South Africa, Zambia, Cameroon, Mali, Nigeria and Algeria all qualified for the continental showpiece that was scheduled for Ghana but reports of the West Africans being stripped off the hosting rights has left the tourney with no host.

Starlets last featured at the 2016 edition held in Cameroon.
