Harambee Starlets lose away to Botswana

The national women football team on Friday went down 2-1 away to Botswana, in an Olympic Games qualifying match at the Lobatse Sports Complex.

The hosts took a 2-0 lead at the break thanks to goals from Refilwe Tholakele and Lesogo Keloboge.

Harambee Starlets however scored what could prove to be a vital away goal deep into the stoppage time of the second half.

Speaking after the match, Starlets coach David Ouma said he was optimistic of turning the tables on the southern Africans when the two teams meet in the return leg in Machakos in a fortnight’s time.

“I could sense some panic in the opening moments before we conceded the two goals. But the girls came back into the game forcefully and this score sets the stage for a thrilling rematch,” Ouma told Nairobi News on phone.

Kenya now requires a 1-0 score or a win of more than two goals to guarantee passage into the next stage of the qualifiers.
