Guardiola on the verge of signing Olunga
After a not so successful seven-month stint in China, Kenyan international striker Micheal Olunga is all but set for a return to Europe, with Spanish club Girona interested in securing him on a short- term deal.
The Spanish side, which only secured promotion to the top flight this season, is co-owned by renowned European football agent Pere Guardiola who is brother Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola.
The 23-year-old, who is also said to be on the radar of another La Liga side Malaga, is expected to be unveiled at Girona before Thursday’s transfer window deadline.
Olunga, who was voted the best player in the SportPesa Premier League in 2015, has excused himself from Harambee Stars friendly against Mozambique to finalise the deal.

The lanky forward, who averages a goal each game for the national team, will be hoping to restore his goal scoring form at club level in Spain.
He last starred in Europe, at Sweden’s top flight side Djurgardens IF after helping Kenya’s Gor Mahia win the 2015 league title. During his first season in Europe, Olunga scored 12 goals in 27 appearances.
However, things didn’t quite work out for the player in China upon signing for top flight club Zhicheng where he only managed two goals in seven appearances, before he was de-registered from the first team to pave way for perceived “better” foreign signings in June.
Girona have made a bright start to the Spanish top flight this term and are placed seventh on the 20-team standings after two matches with a win and a draw.
