Groove award nominee to hang out with Kenya U-23 ladies

Just hours before they fly out of the country to Gaborone to face Botswana in a 2016 Rio Olympic Games qualifying match, the Harambee Starlets, Kenya’s women national team will have a motivational talk delivered by gospel musician Florence Andenyi.

The team will also have a team building of sorts with the multi-Groove Awards nominee to prepare them psychologically for their assignment on Friday.

“This is something very good for the girls because Florence will share with them her life story and how she has made it in music,” head coach David Ouma told Nairobi News.

“It will be a huge motivation for these girls because I think most of them come from a similar background. The girls will also have time to sing with her and relax ahead of the match,” added Ouma.

OLYMPIC QUALIFICATION

Andenyi has been nominated in four categories in the upcoming Groove Awards. She is contesting for Worship Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Western Kenya Song of the Year as well as the New Artiste of the Year.

At the moment, the Kenyan team is provisionally ranked at position 138.

Only two African countries will earn a ticket to Rio and after this second round of qualification.

The the top eight teams qualify for the third round from where a final four will head into another draw for the fourth round of qualification.

“Realistically, this is an opportunity to develop the women’s game in the country but if an Olympic qualification comes along with it, well and good. The girls are ready to play Botswana and we are looking at getting a good result away from home,” the coach added.
