GOtv apologizes after censure over FA Cup match blunder
GOtv has been forced to apologize to its Kenyan customers after it was chided for failing to honour its promise of airing the much-awaited match between Manchester United and Arsenal Monday night.
Disgruntled subscribers camped on social media during and after the match attacking the pay-TV service provider for what they deemed to be dishonest marketing.
Ziro Lewa tweeted: “I’m not a happy man today coz @GOtvKenya made me wait for the game only to discover it’s a fake advert. I watched the Game on Twitter thanks to @GOtvKenya for fake advert.”
‘FALSE REPRESENTATION’
Consumer Federation of Kenya, the organisation founded by Stephen Mutoro also weighed in, declaring:
“It’s unacceptable false representation, in contravention of the law, for @GOtvKenya to fail to keep to its ads. An apology won’t be enough!”
The match, which was scheduled to be availed to GOtv Plus subscribers on SuperSport Select 2, ended 2-1 in favour of Arsenal.
Instead of airing the FA Cup match, GOtv showed a La Liga match “due to a technical glitch beyond our control”.
MITIGATION
“Following an investigation into the cause we have since dealt with the issue and would like to assure GOtv Plus subscribers that we will continue to bring them the sports variety we promised,” said GOtv.
In mitigation, GOtv has promised Plus subscribers live coverage of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 knock out tie between Real Madrid and Schalke on SuperSport Select 2 Wednesday night.
Kickoff is at 22:45 Kenyan time.
