Gor to kick out technical bench

Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia are set to sack their technical bench, with an exception of head coach Bobby Williamson before their next premier league match on Wednesday.

Assistant coach John Bobby Ogolla, team manager Frank Ouna, and goalkeeping coach Iddi Salim all face the sack, as the Executive Committee believes they are not adding value to the team, and could be behind a slate of internal wrangles at the club, according to a senior club official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

“We feel they are not in a position to uphold our standards, and some of them have been inciting players at the club, so they have to go,” he said.

Sofapaka assistant coach Ben Ouma has been touted as a possible replacement for Ogolla, as has Bidco coach Sammy Pamzo Omollo. The club has had contact with the two individuals, but is more likely to settle on Ouma as the engagements are at an advanced stage.

Tom Ogweno may make have his second term as team manager, replacing Ouna, and the two parties appear to have concluded talks. Ogweno was team manager in 2011, but was sacked the following year when Anaba Awono’s entire technical bench was sacked.

They are however yet to settle on candidates for the goalkeeping coach position.

When contacted, Omollo and Ogweno both denied the rumours, saying they have not been in contact with the club at all. “I do not know of any such thing, but should there be any contact it will be made public,” said Omollo.

According to the official, they expect to have the replacements start their duty before their next Kenyan Premier League match against struggling KCB at the City Stadium on Wednesday.

The league champions have had a false start to the 2014 season, managing three wins in seven games, with two draws and two losses in their last four games.

Head coach Bobby Williamson has however expressed satisfaction with his side’s show in the last four games, saying they did their best but luck has not been on their side at times.
