Gor Mahia sneak past Madagascar opposition

Gor Mahia scrapped through to the first round of the African Champions League on away goals rules after losing 3-2 to Madagascar side CNapS on Sunday in Antananarivo.

The outcome of the match saw the two leg affair tied on a 3-3 aggregate scoreline following K’Ogalo’s 1-0 win in Nairobi a fortnight ago.

Gor Mahia, however, rode their luck after trailing for the better part of the match only sneaking through courtesy of George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo goal deep in stoppage time to rescue K’Ogalo from imminent exit.

Odhiambo, who came on 14 minutes to the end of the match, also had a great performance in the first leg match. His goal added to that of inform Victor Ali Abondo in the 29th minute was enough to put Gor on a collision path with Congolese side AC Leopards in the next round.

AGGREGATE LEAD

The host team took just eight minutes to erase K’Ogalo’s advantage through Jimmy Olivier’s goal before Sarivahy Jeanno and Ronald Menossa struck in the 38th and 45th  minute for a 3-1 lead for the islanders on the day and 3-2 aggregate lead.

Later in the 63rd minute, lanky forward Michael Olunga had a good chance to put his name on the score sheet but his effort was cleared off the line.

After the match, a delighted Gor striker, Timothy Otieno, posted a selfie of his teammates in the locker room saying: “It wasn’t easy but we thank the almighty. We are through.”

Gor Mahia line up: Boniface Oluoch, Kevin Oluoch, Godfrey Walusimbi, Dirkir Glay, Musa Mohammed, Collins Okoth, Khalid Aucho, Ali Abondo, Michael Olunga, Timothy Otieno, Ronald Omino (George Odhaimbo)
