Gor Mahia made to sweat by Al Khartoum

Gor Mahia came away with a point from a lethargic display in a Group A Cecafa Club Championship match against Sudan’s Al Khartoum under sweltering conditions at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Al Khartoum got their noses infront after just five minutes of play when Ousmailia Baba tapped the ball into an empty Gor Mahia net.

Thereafter, the Kenyan Premier League champions huffed and puffed in search of an equalizer, which duly arrived five minutes to the break, when Eric Ochieng headed home Khalid Aucho’s pin point cross.

This result leaves these two teams joint top of the group on 7 points apiece from three games.

MISSED CHANCES

“Once again we have fallen behind to an early goal in this competition but my players have come back forcefully to dictate the proceedings and pick something from the game. I am very proud of their effort,” Gor Mahia coach Frank Nuttall said after the match.

Micheal Olunga, who has scored three goals for Gor Mahia, looked fatigued in the second half and having missed two clear chances the opening stanza.

There was some bad news for Gor Mahia late in the second half when midfield maestro Aucho then picked up what could possibly be a costly injury.

Al Khartoum too missed great chances of their own. Baba’s shot hit the post 10 minutes after he had scored the opener after Boniface Oluoch fumbled with the ball.

Then Mohammed Hassan weaved his way through Gor’s defence but blasted his shot off target with only Oluoch to beat.
