Gor Mahia bundled out of CAF champions league

Gor Mahia were on Monday evening dumped out of the CAF Champions League after a 5-0 thrashing by hosts Esperance in a match played at the Olympique Stade de Rades in Tunis.

Already trailing 3-2 from first leg encounter in Nairobi, Bobby Williamson’s side needed almost a perfect performance to see off the Tunisian champions Esperance Sportive de Tunis.

A hatrick from striker Heithem Juoini sent Esperance on their way, humiliating the Kenyan champions to an 8-2 aggregate score.

Further goals from Harisson Afful and Idriss Mhrisi consigned Gor to one of their heaviest defeats in a continental fixture.

Gor Mahia had survived earlier minute attacks by Esperance before the flood gates opened.

So dominant were the Tunisian side that they could even afford to miss a penalty as Khalid Mouelhi’s spot kick came off the cross bar.

But, in reality, it was scant survival as Bobby Williamson’s side had been contained in their half.

When Gor Mahia tried to lay foot down in the fixture, Danny Sserenkuma fired just wide of the left upright after being sent through by a George Odhiambo flicked header.

But the hosts responded in style and strolled to emphatic 5-0 victory.

Kenya now has no representative in both continental competitions after AFC Leopards were also eliminated on Sunday by Supersport United.
