Gor lie in wait for Cecafa opponents ahead of draw

Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia will know their group opponents in this year’s Cecafa Club Championship on Tuesday.

The draw will be done on Tuesday afternoon in Dar es Salaam, while the fixtures will be out on Wednesday, Cecafa secretary general Nicholas Musonye has said.

“I’m going there to know the training grounds and ensure that they are in good shape as well as come up with the venues. The tournament will however be staged at the main venue; the National Stadium in Dar,” Musonye said shortly before leaving for the Tanzanian capital.

A BETTER TOURNAMENT

A total of 13 teams have confirmed participation and Musonye said that the aim is to hold a better tournament than last year’s edition held in Kigali, Rwanda.

“We are going to have a bigger and better competition than what we had in Rwanda. All matches will be live on Supersport,” he said.

The competition will run from July 18- August 2.

K’Ogalo will be representing the county at the annual competition for the second successive year.

They will be keen on snatching the title from Sudan’s powerhouse El-Mereikh, who beat host club APR of Rwanda in last year, with Kenyan striker Allan Wanga, scoring the all-important goal.

K’Ogalo suffered the ignominy of being tossed out at the group stages last term without winning a single match under then coach Bobby Williamson.

The then K’Ogalo squad was light weight compared to the current coherent outfit and the Kenyan champions will have every reason to stake a claim at the trophy.
