Gor, Leopards brace for midweek ties

Top football clubs Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards face two contrasting situations ahead of their mid-week Kenyan premier league ties on Wednesday.

Defending champions Gor Mahia face off with Thika United at the City Stadium on the back of three wins out of three, while AFC Leopards host on form Sony Sugar at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Two weeks after their respective exits from continental football, the two clubs seem to have responded differently with Gor appearing to have bounced back from their capitulation in Tunis with a 2-0 win over City Stars last Sunday.

Leopards on the other hand have found the going tough and are still searching for their first win of the campaign after four games.

Three draws and a loss is all coach James Nandwa’s expensively assembled side have to show as fans become more agitated.

Leopards are in 13th place with 3 points.

The GOtv shield winners come up against a Sony Sugar that has won three out of the four games it has played and beaming with confidence.

The team coached by Zedekiah Otieno is playing good football and will certainly provide a stern test for the misfiring Leopards.

This is a must win game for Leopards coach Nandwa and he knows it. A defeat against the Sugar millers will leave them in the relegation zone and pile more pressure on Coach Nandwa.

“I can understand what the fans are going through but I want to assure them that this a good team, our tactics are right, we are just unlucky but I remain upbeat that we can kickstart our season with a win against Sony,” Nandwa told Nairobi News.

All is well at the Kogallo camp and coach Bobby Williamson will be looking for a fourth consecutive win that will see them move closer to the top of the table.

Gor can move to the top of the league with a win and Sony fail to win at Leopards.
