Raila Odinga endorsed as ODM candidate

As expected, the Orange Democratic Movement has endorsed Raila Odinga as its presidential candidate ahead of the 2017 general elections.

Mr Odinga, who has thrice failed in his bid to become Kenya’s Head of State during previous elections, was endorsed by the opposition party’s top hierarchy during a mammoth rally held to commemorate the party’s tenth anniversary at the Mama Ngina Drive grounds in Mombasa.

The endorsement turned out to be the “big announcement” the party had promised its followers this past week.

Mr Odinga is thus, expected to battle it out against Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetangula for the party’s top seat in what is expected to be a fierce battle against incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta who will contest for his second and last term with the newly created Jubilee party.

Raila’s endorsement instantly drew reaction from stakeholders on social media, with renowned blogger Robert Alai declaring “CORD is dead” as a result.

Alai had also earlier on blasted Raila’s for showcasing his immediate family during ODM campaigns.

He was reacting to pictures showing Raila’s daughter Winnie taking selfies during the mammoth party procession in Mombasa.
