Gang denies kidnapping twins
A former Administration Police officer and eight other suspects on Wednesday denied kidnapping 14 year old twins.
They are charged for kidnapping Ahwal and Abhita Mahjan on October 3 at Brookside along Grivelia Groove, in Westlands.
The accused were arrested by Flying Squad officers on Tuesday at a house in Tajiri estate, Matasia.
Appearing before principal magistrate Ms Elena Nderitu, they denied the two counts of kidnapping with intent to confine.
They were each released on a Sh2 million bond with a surety of similar amount. Hearing is scheduled for December 2.
The accused are Joash Jagero, a former AP officer, Geofrey Osumba, Fredrick Mbuta,Geofrey Mutune, Clifford Okoth, Patrick Mwendwa, Francis Luseka, Mark Oduk and Gabriel Otema.
Through their lawyers Cliff Ombeta and Hezron Oundu, they claimed they had sustained injuries during the arrest and wanted to be taken to hospital for treatment.
They also claimed that police took away their personal effects including mobile phones and cash.
“The accused would like to be taken to police to register the complaint,” said Mr Ombeta in his application.
The court directed the defence to make an inventory of all the items alleged to have been taken by the police and present it to the prosecution to respond.
Ms Nderitu also rejected an application by the prosecution to deny the accused bail, saying no evidence had been tendered to support the application and that the objection had no basis.
