Fugitive terror suspect found dead in Naivasha forest

A terror suspect who once escaped police dragnet in Mombasa was on Thursday found dead in a forest in Naivasha.

The body of Farid Omar Awadh was found together with another body of a woman, Fatuma Mohammed Masuo, the widow of slain terror suspect Kassim Omollo

Farid went out of police radar in September 2015 after he escaped a raid at his house in Kisauni, Mombasa.

RECEIVED NEWS

According to Farid’s father, Omar Awadh, the family received news of his death on Thursday after a relative in Lamu briefed the family on the same.

“We were first told that there is a body of a man who was identified as Said Omar. I said I do not have a child by that name, but because mine (Farid) had gone missing for more than a year, I decided to take a look at the picture only to learn that it was him, my child,” Mr Awadh told the Nation.

The 70-year-old father however said the family had no information on the woman whose body was found with Farid. He said Farid’s wife Zahra Bahama is with the family.

LOST FAITH

“My son left his wife and his four children with us whom I have been taking care of. We have been living with them all that long and I had even lost faith if I will ever see my son,” he said.

Mr Awadh said Farid vanished in September 13, 2015 and he had never communicated with him since then.

Speaking to journalists after the raid,  Farid’s  wife Zahra Bahama said: “The police did not say what they were looking after asking about my husband but when they left they said he (my husband) should not think that they are done with him.”
