Fugitive British woman in murder case arrested in Uganda

A mother who has been on the run for the last three years after allegedly killing her 20 month old daughter and was believed to be hiding in Kenya has been taken into custody in Uganda.

The suspect, Angela Whitworth, is the mother of 20-month-old Sarah Dahane, who was found dead in her home in Bicester, England, in May 2013.

Angela Whitworth was arrested on Wednesday March 9, 2016 in a joint operation by Ugandan authorities and Thames Valley Police.

PUBLIC APPEAL

The Thames Valley Police had in 2013 launched a public appeal for help to find her. A reward of Sh 1.2million (£10,000) was on offer for information leading to her arrest and conviction.

Ms Whitworth was believed to had flown to Nairobi in Kenya the day before the little girl’s body was discovered.

Thames Valley Police did not name the suspect, but said: “A 43-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with a Thames Valley Police investigation.

‘The arrested woman was detained in Uganda by the Uganda National Police in a joint operation with Thames Valley Police’s major crime unit, and is currently in custody.”
