Fresh ethnic clashes in Kitengela in battle for market stalls

Tension remained high in Kitengela town on Wednesday as ethnic groups fought over allocation of stalls in a market.

Business premises were closed in the town as a heavy police contingent patrolled the streets.

The officers drawn from General Service Unit (GSU) and regular and administration police.

Maasai traders want majority of Kitengela market’s slots allocated to them.

They also want bodaboda operators banned from the town, claiming they are owned by Mungiki.

On Tuesday, one person is feared to have died while scores were injured as hawkers from different ethnic groups fought over a market in Kitengela Town.
