Four guards killed at Grogan
Four security guards were on Tuesday at dawn hacked to death by unknown assailants at a controversial plot in Grogan area.
Two other guards sustained serious injuries after they were attacked by the machete wielding gang.
The mutilated bodies of the dead guards were scattered at the scene of the attack. It appears the attackers forced their way into the corrugated iron structure where the guards were sleeping before attacking them.
It was not clear what the motive for the attack was even though the plot has been a subject of a court dispute between Jamia Mosque management and jua kali artisans operating from the area.
Police at the scene had a hard time controlling crowds of curious onlookers trying to get a glimpse of the bodies which were covered using sacks.
Four machetes believed to have been used in the harrowing attack were recovered alongside mobile phones and keys belonging to the victims.
Starehe MP Maina Kamanda condemned the attack and vowed to ensure that the attackers were brought to book.
“The two guards who survived will help the police in investigations,” he said. He said that ownership of the plot had in the recent past been a matter of dispute between mechanics and Jamia Mosque Committee.
Four months ago, chaos erupted near the Globe Cinema roundabout when the committee took possession of the plot.
The mechanics were eventually forced to move and the committee put up a perimeter wall around it.
Mr Kamanda said it was not clear why the attack happened yet calm had been restored in the past few months.
“The guards were hired by the current land owner so we cannot speculate for now who was the mastermind of this attack,” he added.
The bodies were taken to City Mortuary.
Starehe OCPD, Baraza Wabomba said police were investigating the matter.
“Nothing had been stolen because the area has nothing. It is a prime plot that is under construction,” Mr Wabomba said.
He said the watchmen’s identities are yet to be known as they did not have their identification documents with them. Police are looking for the owner of the plot.
“We have the documents about the plot and we are looking for its owner so that he can give us leads,” Nairobi County Deputy Police Commandant, Moses Ombati said.
