Foodstuff prices go up in Nairobi
Residents of Nairobi will dig deeper into their pockets in the coming month as prices of commodities continue to rise as a result of unpredictable weather.
Traders claim that there has also been a slight decrease of supply of commodities in the market and prices are likely to go higher than expected.
A spot check by KNA crew at Muthurwa market have shown rising prices for foodstuffs such as maize flour, wheat flour, cereals and vegetables.
A sack of cabbages which was retailing at Sh 950 last week is now going for Sh 1,200 while a sack of potatoes is now selling at Sh 3,000 up from Sh 1,800.
BAD BUSINESS
A kilogram of maize flour is selling at Sh 55 up from Sh 50 while the price of 1kg of wheat flour has increased from Sh 95 to Sh 123.
However, the supply of onions and tomatoes has resulting into lower prices.
Eunice Mwangi a potato vendor at Muthurwa market say business is not good because of the price increases.
“Initially, I used to make a 100 percent profit from the sale of a sack of potatoes, at the moment am only making a profit of 20 percent,” said Ms. Mwangi.
