FKF moves to appease disenfranchised clubs

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) on Wednesday moved to stem growing disenfranchisement from FKF Premier League clubs occasioned by a delay in remittance of the monthly grants.

In a stormy three-hour meeting held at a Nairobi hotel on Wednesday, the two parties thrashed out a 48 hour truce in which FKF promised to “talk to sponsors” and revert with an amicable solution.

As revealed earlier this week by Nairobi News, the 18 teams featuring in this competition are yet to receive the Sh 1 million monthly grants as contractually agreed upon.

This is despite the national body having received on the teams behalf, about Sh 76 million from its “silent” sponsors, MP & Silva last March.

SPONSORSHIP MONIES

“We are broke and that concerns both the administrators, players and technical officials. We summoned the federation and they have in turn asked for two days to renegotiate with the sponsors and then offer us feedback,” FKF PL vice chairman Ken Ochieng’ said.

FKF has in the meantime made public a breakdown of expenditure for the sponsorship monies received from MP & Silva.

According to Ochieng’, Sh 34 million has been disbursed to 16 of the 18 teams as grants in the opening two months of the competition, while another Sh 10 million has been set aside for payment of referees, and other facilitation.

The rest of the amount totaling Sh 32 million has reportedly been channeled towards the preparations of national football teams.
