Five suspected gangsters shot dead in foiled robberies


Police officers on Saturday morning shot and killed five gangsters and recovered an assortment of weapons in separate incidents.

In Kariobangi, police officers shot and killed two gangsters near National Concrete Bridge along Outering Road after they received a tip off from members of the public.

According to the police, the two were part of a gang of five suspected to have been robbing members of the public at Riverside area.

On noticing the police officers, the suspects fled towards National Concrete Bridge but were pursued and overpowered by the police.

Three of the suspects jumped into Nairobi River and escaped. The bodies of the slain suspects were taken to City Mortuary for identification and postmortem.

RECOVERED ITEMS

Among the recovered items from the suspects was a homemade pistol capable of firing with three rounds ammunition, five mobile phones, three phone chargers, three ID cards bearing different names, two smart cards for Naivas and Nakumatt Supermarkets, Equity ATM cards and foreign currency of different countries.

In Kariobangi South, police officers shot dead two suspected gangsters near Mayatima. The officers, who were on patrol, received information from members of the public that three people on a motorcycle were on a robbing spree.

The three, according to the police, defied orders to surrender and instead opened fire.

One suspect escaped the scene. Police recovered a homemade gun, three rounds of ammunition, a dagger, five rolls of cannabis sativa, fake money and a motorcycle.

SHOT DEAD

Elsewhere, police officers shot dead a suspected gangster who was part of a group of five in Uthiru. The suspect’s accomplices escaped with gunshot wounds.

Police recovered a homemade, gun five rounds of ammunition and a steel chain cutter.

In Umoja estate, a suspect gangster was lynched by members of the public while an accomplice managed to escape.

The suspect died while being taken to Mama Lucy Hospital. An ATM and ID cards were recovered at the scene.
