Five police officers in court over Sh1m extortion plot

Five policemen and a civilian were arraigned at a Thika court on Monday over an attempt to extort Sh1 million from a member of the public.

The policemen had demanded the money from a Kenyan man as condition to release a Chinese national who was in their custody.

Chief Magistrate Theresa Murigi denied a request by the five suspects to be released on bond

The magistrate ordered that the five be remanded until Wednesday when they will be again arraigned in court.

Separately, a police officer was charged with possession of ivory and using a pistol to threaten Kenya Wildlife Service officers from arresting him.

Moses Osoromo allegedly committed the offence in Thika town.
