First it was urine… now Froome gets spat on!

Kenyan born British professional road racing cyclist Chris Froome was spat on at stage 19 of the Tour de France on Friday afternoon while racing up a hill.

Froome’s impressive performance at the ongoing competition has been dogged by a series of ugly incidents from spectators.

The 30 year old Sky Team rider previously claimed that another spectator threw urine at him during stage 14.

“I didn’t see the spit but it’s appalling. We are human beings primarily, then sportsmen. Don’t come to spit, punch or throw urine,” Froome said.

Froome, the 2013 Tour de France champion, is chasing his second title in the competition with Colombian Nairo Quintana expected to push the Briton all the way on Saturday afternoon.

Froome had made serene progress until Friday’s 138 kilometres 19th stage from Saint Jean de Maurienne to La Toussuire when his rivals managed to expose him, and Quintana (Movistar) trimmed his overall advantage to two minutes 38 seconds.
