Fire razes sheds in Kibera
Property of unknown value went up in smoke when a huge fire razed sheds used as garages and kiosks near Fort Jesus estate in Kibera Wednesday evening.
The fire started at around 7 pm and raged for half an hour as owners who were joined by the residents battled it unsuccessfully.
A contingent from the County Fire Brigade arrived later and managed to extinguish the fire, whose cause was by Thursday morning yet to be determined.
Owners of the sheds were counting their losses Thursday morning as they scoured the smoldering ruins for any valuables.
Others who were undeterred by the losses rose up early and were busy repairing the sheds ready to resume work.
The garages and sheds are located on a reserve between Fort Jesus and the Kibera railway line.
