Fire destroys houses in Kibera

A section of residents of Kibera 45 area spent Thursday night in the cold after fire razed down their houses.

Business premises as well as residential houses were destroyed in the fire that started at 10pm

According to Jane Achieng, the cause of the fire could not be determined.

“We had just closed when we received a call informing us that a huge fire had erupted in a furniture store just next to our Clinic,” she said.

The structures were not connected to electricity, she added.

Maria Nyawira, a resident, was forced to spend the night at her son’s house.

“I had finished super when I heard people shouting and calling us to come out. I woke up my grandson and before we could secure anything the fire had already spread to our house” she said.

Other structures affected included a neighbouring church.
