Fire cuts off power supply to Kibera
Electricity supply to parts of Kibera was disrupted following a fire incident Tuesday night at Mukuru Kayaba slum which damaged high voltage power lines in the area.
Kenya Power system operations manager David Mutitu said the fire, attributed to human activities and settlements on electricity way leave trace in the area, disabled substations in Industrial Area and Nairobi West.
Mr Mutitu said the company had managed to supply affected customers with power from alternative power feeders to minimise the disruption of service to customers in the affected areas.
He said the company had mobilised several operation and maintenance teams to rebuild the affected power lines with restoration expected by end of day.
