Power glitch cuts short Raila’s address in Mombasa

A power blackout on Saturday afternoon cut short the much anticipated address by ODM leader Raila Odinga. Technicians worked hard and restored power after about 30 minutes.

Power went off just as Mr Odinga was about to speak. He had promised a major announcement today.

Kenya Power absolved itself from blame saying power supply in Mombasa has been stable and reliable through out the day.

“Our technical team have checked and confirmed that supply to Mama Ngina Drive where the Orange Democratic Party is currently holding its rally has had stable power supply,” Eng. Daniel Tare, General Manager, Network Management said.

“We have confirmed that power supply in Mama Ngina Drive and the whole of Mombasa region has been stable and reliable.”

Once power was restored, Mr Odinga vowed to dislodge President Uhuru Kenyatta from power next year.

“Don’t be told that incumbents cannot be beaten.  We have beaten incumbents before and we shall do it again because we know you will be there,” he said.

“We continue to cherish the CORD partnership and we will strengthen it. With your mandate, we will invite more leaders and parties to join us.”
