Police ordered to probe Jaguar crash cover-up claim

Police have been ordered to investigate claims of a cover-up in an accident involving musician Charles ‘Jaguar’ Njagua.

In the Tuesday evening crash that killed two men at Rukanga shopping centre on the Sagana-Makutano highway, Jaguar claimed to have been behind the wheel but an eyewitness said a woman was driving.

A worker repairing the road claimed he saw the two exchange positions.

“From the windscreen, I saw a woman on the wheel exchanging the seat with a man. Then the man alighted from the right side while the woman came out from the left,” said the worker who did not want to be named.

The black Range Rover, registration number KCB 808J,  had three people inside and hit a motorcycle from behind.

COVER-UP

The accident was reported at Sagana Police Station where Jaguar was recorded as the driver.

Public prosecutions boss Keriako Tobiko wrote to the criminal investigations head Ndegwa Muhoro to probe the claim that the musician could be trying to take the blame.

“It is alleged that there is a cover-up on the identity of the driver who caused the fatal accident,” reads the statement signed by deputy prosecutor Nicholas Mutuku.

Police at Sagana station have denied that a woman was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident. They insisted Jaguar was on the wheel.

Mwea West police chief Samuel Seurey said no witnesses had made an official statement.

“So, as far as we understand it, Jaguar was driving. If anyone saw them switching seats, we urge them to come forward. If there is a cover-up we will charge the musician with giving false information,” said Mr Seurey.
