DJs warn Babu Owino against victim blaming over B-Club shooting

The Kenya DJ Fraternity has warned Embakasi East MP Babu Owino against apportioning any blame on the B-Club DJ shot early Friday morning.

A statement issued by the organization has described DJ Evolve, real name Felix Onjira, as a humble, hardworking and jovial person who could not have done anything to provoke Owino.

“We refute any attempt to change the narrative to portray DJ Evolve as the aggressor, going by the claims on Hon. Babu Owino’s social media pages. All who have interacted with DJ Evolve know him as a humble, hardworking and jovial individual, who was out there doing his best to make a living in this tough times we currently experience,” read part of the statement.

“We as the DJ fraternity strongly condemn the attack against one of our own that was meted in a most brutal and despicable way,” the body said.

The DJ also demanded that the government through the Office of the Director of Criminal Investigation to ensure a proper investigation is done and that the MP faces the full force of law.

“As per our constitution, attempted murder is a crime that has serious consequences that also include life imprisonment. The act carried out by Hon. Babu Owino is tantamount to attempted murder against an unarmed and innocent hardworking Kenyan by an ostentatious youth leader who casts shame on not only the current leadership but to all aspiring Kenyans at large,” the statement further read.

On Friday, lawyer Cliff Ombeta claimed that his legislator client was approached by an aggressive crowd which prompted him to fire his gun.

“At the turn of the year, I reported an attempted assassination at the Parliament Police Station under OB number OB21/17/11/2019 at 17:28hrs. I have been living under the weight of intimidation and threats by my political opponents.”

Yesterday was the culmination of these efforts by my enemies. While enjoying the company of my friends at a popular Nairobi restaurant, I was surrounded by a large group of aggressive individuals. In the melee, there was an exchange of gunfire,”

Babu Owino, who was held at Kilimani police station following his arrest on Friday morning, was transferred to Gigiri police station on Saturday afternoon.

The DCI boss George Kinoti said the MP will be charged on Monday with attempted murder.
