CIC, Amaco, end row on health cover

Nairobi City County workers are the biggest winners in a truce between two insurance firms.

The workers can now enjoy their health cover which had earlier been stopped as rival insurance firms fought over the contract.

CIC General Insurance Ltd and Amaco Insurance Company were fighting over who should be awarded the Sh80 million medical tender, prompting the court to issue orders stopping the exercise.

The County government had awarded the Sh87.8 million 2013-2014 general insurance tender to Amaco insurance company on June 3, but was later overturned by Public Procurement Oversight Authority (PPOA) on July 16 following a complaint by CIC Insurance.

It challenged the way the tender had been awarded.

CIC was then awarded the tender by PPOA, but the County government moved to court and obtained a court order stopping the cancellation of the tender it had awarded to Amaco insurance.

On Monday however, CIC through lawyer William Mogaka told Justice Weldon Korir that they had met with Amaco and agreed that the latter should proceed and be allowed to offer the services.
