Bobi Wine’s house surrounded by Ugandan police and military

Police in Uganda have surrounded the house of Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine hours after cancelling his concert.

Bobi Wine shared on Twitter pictures of police and military personnel with a land cruiser outside his house.

“Since 11:00pm, police & military surrounded my home & my private property, One Love Beach Busabala, in yet another move to place me under house arrest & block our Independence Day music concert. 156th concert so far! For singing truth to power, I can’t perform in my own country,” Wine posted.

Bobi Wine, a musician-turned-politician, had been scheduled to perform in a music concert ‘Osobola’ on October 9, which coincided with the country’s Independence Day but it was cancelled by the Uganda’s Inspector General of Police Martin Okoth Ochola.

According to a letter dated October 2, but released on Tuesday to Kampala Metropolitan Police, the police boss said Bobi Wine did not consider plans for medical care, traffic control, crowd control and security for his concert.

“This serves to inform you that the notice to the Inspector General of Police has remarkable deficiencies, which do not guarantee lawfulness, safety, security for the public and organisers,” the letter says.

In April of this year the Ugandan police cancelled another of Bobi Wine’s concert dubbed ‘Kyarenga Extra’ for failing to adhere to safety guidelines.

He was later detained when he attempted to reach the venue on the shores of Lake Victoria, flanked by dozens of his supporters.
