Family photo of Kibaki and Mary Wambui stirs ruckus on their relationship

A family photo of former President Mwai Kibaki standing with Othaya MP Mary Wambui, together with members of his immediate family, has revived speculation on the true nature of their relationship.

In the photo, Kibaki is accompanied by his elder brother Bernard Nderitu (now deceased) and his wife Martha Njeri. But it is the presence of Mary Wambui in the ‘family moment’ that has left tongues wagging on social media.

The retired President had during his tenure publicly denied on several occasions of not having any relations with the businesswoman cum politician.

On one such occasion, the retired President called a press conference at State House, Nairobi, where he stated on live TV that he only had one wife Lucy Kibaki and four children.

But despite the declaration, speculation never ceased on their relationship. One such moment was when Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale declared on a live television show that retired President Kibaki had introduced Ms Wambui to him as his wife at Golf Hotel Kakamega in the campaign of the 2005 referendum.

Kibaki’s family had in the last elections openly opposed Mary Wambui’s candidature for the Othaya parliamentary seat and campaigned for her opponent Gichuki Mugambi.

Ms Wambui however went ahead and won the race. And now this photo..
