Victor Wanyama to donate Sh 0.5 million to AFC Leopards

Victor Wanyama is set to donate half a million shillings to AFC Leopards players on Saturday.

The popular club is financially in the red in the wake of a decision by its main sponsor Mumias Sugar to pull the plug on a Sh 25 million jersey sponsorship deal at the start of this season.

First team players at the club have not been paid their salaries for the past three months.

The situation has not been helped  by boardroom squabbles and wrangling, a situation that led to resignation of the club chairman Allan Kasavuli earlier this week.

This circus has now attracted the attention of the Southampton midfielder Wanyama who is in the country on holiday following the end of the English Premier League campaign.

“What I have been reading in the papers and online is really embarrassing for Leopards players or even any other team in the Kenyan Premier League,” Wanyama, who enjoyed a six month stint at Leopards during the start of his career, told Nairobi News.

He added: “Am heading there to talk to the players and encourage them, urge them to maintain the focus on their passion however difficult that may seem.”

AFC Leopards next face Mathare United in a league match in Monday.
