Ex-Stars coaches Williamson, Amrouche take FKF to court

Football Kenya Federation is sweating over a Sh245 million legal suit from two of its former employees.

This after former Harambee Stars coaches Bobby Williamson and Adel Amrouche dragged the national federation to court over unlawful dismissal.

Williamson, 54, has opted to seek justice within the Kenyan courts, after filing his case at the Sports Tribunal.

The Briton, who was in charge of the national football team for a 16 month spell which ended in February this year, is seeking Sh105 million from FKF for unlawful termination of services, plus payments due for the remainder of his contract and damages.

At the same time, Amrouche who was sacked in August 2014 by the previous FKF office led by Sam Nyamweya is headed to Fifa’s Dispute Resolution Chambers in search of justice.

The Belgian is demanding Sh130 million as compensation, an amount equivalent to the remainder of his five year contract which was to run until 2019.

DEMAND LETTER

Amrouche’s demand letter to FKF which is in our possession reads in part:

“It should be noted that if he (Amrouche) was to proceed (read sue FKF) and succeeded at the Fifa Dispute Resolution Chambers, then he would have to be paid his full salary arrears and salary until January 31, 2019 (e.g. Sh107 million) plus interest on the unpaid arrears for the last two years, plus significant compensation for unfair dismissal.”

“We have engaged the Government and are also in talks with this two gentlemen with a view to settling this matter amicably,” FKF President Nick Mwendwa told Nairobi News.

Meanwhile, our sources reveal that Amrouche could make a return as Stars coach as part of the out of court settlement.

Infact, it is understood the former Burundi coach’s return to the fold is subject to financial guarantees by the Government in paying his salary and accommodation.

At the same time, FKF has announced Harambee Stars take part in two friendly games against Sudan and Tanzania later this month, in readiness for the 2017 Africa Nations Cup dead runner qualifier against the Republic of Congo on June 5.

Plans are also underway for Stars to host a European country in a high profile friendly in Nairobi later in the year, as well as play Iraq in Dubai in another build up game in August.

Two overseas based players of Kenyan origin, Australia based Bruce Kamau and Ismial Gozalez, who plies his trade at Spain’s second division club CP Cacerano, have been called up by Stars coach Stanley Okumbi ahead of these assignments.
