End of an era as Mad House closes shop

It is the end of an era — of sorts — for Florida Nightclub, popularly known as F1, which is set to shut its landmark city base.

Sources told NairobiNews that the entertainment spot will move to a new venue by the end of the week, but the management did not disclose its new location or when they expect to open their doors.

The move will bring to an end a tenancy wrangle that saw Total petrol station that used to operate below the 360-degree nightclub close shop in 2010.

The club has been an entertainment hotspot since the ‘60s even before it became part of the Florida Group, but this will be no more as the landlord plans to bring down the building which is an extension of Chai House.

Most of its earlier peers like Bubbles, L’ora Blue and Visions have over the years closed down or reinvented themselves leaving ‘Madhouse’ as the only reference point for the nostalgic party animals of the 80s and 90s.

Most people will remember the mushroom-shaped red and white nightclub for jam sessions.
