UN seeks assurance on safety of Nairobi staff

April 17th, 2014 1 min read

The United Nations Office in Nairobi has sought government assurance over the safety of its staff following a series of violent attacks targeting them in the city.

UNON director-general Sahle-Work Zewde, in a letter to the government, expressed concern that carjackings and violent robberies against UN staff had doubled in the first quarter of 2014, compared to the same period last year.

Residential break-ins have tripled.

On March 20, the UNON boss met Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed following similar concerns.
