Three people on Monday pleaded guilty to charges of stealing two pigs worth Sh 20,000 before the Makadara Law Courts.

Robert Githinji, Bernard Mwangi and Catherine Mwikali admitted stealing the animals from Catherine Njoki in Mukuru kwa Reuben in Industrial Area Nairobi on January 1, 2020.

Njoki discovered her pigs were missing the following day and was informed that the animals had been spotted at a dumpsite in the area but could not find them.

Githinji, a garbage collector, was arrested at Njoki’s house by Nyumba Kumi officials where he had had gone to collect garbage after he was identified as the one who stole the pigs.

He was taken to Mukuru Police Post while Mwangi and Mwikali were arrested after they went to plead with police to release Githinji.

The animals were never recovered and Githinji said they are ready to pay Njoki.

Githinji and Mwangi were remanded in custody until Monday during which they will be interviewed by the probation department before they are sentenced.

Mwikali was released on bond because she has a young baby and will appear in court alongside other suspects. Njoki was also summoned.
