New, flashier number plates unveiled

Transport Secretary Michael Kamau has unveiled the new generation number plates.

The new number plates have electronic chips with special security features.

Vehicles will now have an extra number plate displayed on the windscreen, besides the usual ones displayed at the front and back.

Secretary Kamau unveiled samples of new number plates at Kamiti Maximum prisons when he toured the institution on Monday.

Custom made plates with personalized featured will also be manufactured at a cost of not less than Sh1 million.

Also present during the launch of the new number plates was National Transport & Safety Authority Chairman Lee Kinyanjui  and Prisons Commissioner General Isaiah Osugo.
