Three dead after night fire burns down Korogocho Market


Three people died and 12 others sustained serious burn injuries following a fire that broke out at Korogocho Market on Tuesday night.

The survivors of the incident were rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for treatment.

The fire ripped through the open air market reducing stalls and goods of unknown value to ashes.

According to witnesses, the inferno spread quickly flattening the tin stalls and destroying their stock.

The fire was later contained through the combined efforts of traders, residents and firefighters from the Nairobi county government.

Police are yet to establish the cause of the fire.

Korogocho market has more than 5,000 traders and mainly serves residents of Kariobangi, Dandora, Baba Dogo, Buruburu, Huruma and Kiamaiko estates in Nairobi.
