City banker shot dead in suspected love triangle

A senior banker was on Wednesday night shot dead outside Kianda School in Westlands in a suspected love triangle.

Peter Mukuria Njuguna, 42, the Deputy Retail Director at Family Bank’s headquarters, was shot twice on the head and neck as he waited to pick a woman from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Waiyaki Way Campus, at 8pm.

The woman, Margaret Nyawira,28, is also a banker in a different bank.

Ms Nyawira, according to police, is married to Joseph Chege, a businessman in the transport sector in Nairobi.

In her testimony to the police, she recounted how they were accosted by two men as she approached Mr Njuguna’s CRV Honda Vehicle at the gate adjacent to the Kianda School.

The two men then forced their way into the car.

“They forced him into the back seat and drove away. Just a few meters away, she heard two gunshots and the two men got out of the car. She said she found out that Mr Njuguna had been shot dead. Nothing was stolen from the deceased.” Dagoretti OCPD, Matthew Gwiyo said.

Mr Gwiyo said Ms Nyawira and another man, whom she alleged that he had been in the company of the two men, had been arrested and are being held at the Muthangari Police station for questioning.

“The lady told us that the deceased was supposed to pick her and drop her at her home in Ngong’ where she lives with her husband. The deceased lived in Kingerero in Kikuyu.” Mr Gwiyo said.

Mr Gwiyo said the police will also question Mr Chege, as part of the investigation into the murder.
