The civil aviation authority is investigating circumstances under which a close associate of Deputy President William Ruto acquired a plot near Wilson Airport.

Kenya Civil Aviation Authority chairman Samuel Poghisio said they were studying their records to establish whether the plot on which Weston Hotel stands belonged to it.

“I am digging into the history (of the plot). If we establish that it was part and parcel of KCAA, then we will institute a legal process of getting it back,” Mr Poghisio said.

Businessman Patrick Osero has said he owns the hotel adjacent to the Lang’ata Primary School, which was last week at the centre of a storm over the grabbing of the pupils’ playground.

Mr Poghisio spoke as controversial businessman Jacob Juma threatened to move to court to have the hotel brought down and the land surrendered to KCAA.

Mr Juma accused Mr Osero of being used by senior officials in to grab the land.

“Between the year 2001 and 2002, you illegally obtained public land originally owned by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority along Lang’ata Road opposite Wilson Airport, adjacent to Lang’ata Road Primary School,” Mr Juma said through Anyegah and Company Advocates.

He went on: “Our instructions are to demand your immediate surrender of the illegal title to the National Land Commission for rectification and registration in favour of KCAA. Further we are instructed to demand that you demolish the illegal structures already erected on the said property, of course at your own cost.”

Mr Osero was not immediately available for comment but he has previously maintained that he acquired the plot legally.
