Eastlands commuters stranded in wake of Embassava ban
Morning commuters in Nairobi’s Eastlands area were on Thursday stranded at bus stops as the effects of the ban on Embassaava sacco fleet began to be felt.
The sacco was banned from the roads on Wednesday for an unspecified period by the National Transport and Safety Authority.
The sacco’s drivers are accused by the authority of breaching traffic rules.
The ban came days after one of the fleet’s drivers was deemed responsible for the fatal accident on Jogoo road that killed one person on the spot.
According to NTSA Director General Francis Meja, the Embassava driver was to blame for the road crash after failing to obey traffic lights at the junction of Jogoo Road and Rabai Road.
Mr Meja said Embassava would not be allowed to resume operations until they meet set conditions, which include inspection of their vehicles and training of all their drivers and conductors.
The Embassava sacco fleet dominates the routes in Donholm, Tassia, Pipeline and Embakasi estates.
